Still Thirsty?
Hey! We’re so glad to have met you down in Belltown the other day. We know it wasn’t by coincidence, but by divine appointment that our paths crossed. The fact that you’re checking out this website right now and reading this note is evidence that God has been actively pursuing you all your life and He is passionate about you and desires a personal relationship with you.
The bible tells us a story in the gospel of John about an ordinary woman who had an unexpected yet incredible encounter with Jesus that radically changed her life. It was just an ordinary day for this woman as she made her usual journey in the heat of the day to the local well to draw water. She was going through the motions and life was just routine. If you would’ve asked her, the fact that she’d been divorced five times and was also rejected and despised by her own village, she’d admit that her life wasn’t all that glamorous. But by this point in her life, she’d just come to accept the cards that she’d been dealt in life, like many of us do. She was tired of being hopeful and optimistic. Circumstances were getting the best of her and she was tired of being disappointed. But deep down, she longed for something more. Deep down, she was yearning and craving for significance and love and joy and peace and fulfillment and purpose and meaning and forgiveness and hope. But she didn’t know where she could find these things, until she encountered Jesus.
Jesus offered her something that no one else could offer her.
Jesus answered, “Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks the water I give him will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.”
Jesus offered this living water that would satisfy and quench her thirst forever…water that would fulfill her deepest longings and cravings of her soul and fill a God-shaped void in her life that for so long she was trying to fill with so many other things other than God.
Maybe you’re reading this note because you, like this woman at the well, have tried everything else. You’ve tried relationships, sex, drugs, alcohol, money, career, cars, success, fame, clothes, shoes, bars, clubs…the list goes on and on. But deep down, you know you’re still not satisfied.
You’re still thirsty.
The good news is you don’t have to look any further, because Jesus came to satisfy your thirst once and for all. Jesus came so that you could have life, abundant life. And He offers you this life by inviting you into a living, vital, personal relationship with Himself. The Bible tells us in John 3:16 that “God so loved the world that he gave his one and only son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”
Whatever you’re searching for in life, we hope that you’ll consider what Jesus wants to offer you. Because if you do, you’ll never be the same. Just like the woman at the well, today could be the day when your life takes a turn for the better as you begin to experience the life-transforming love and power of God in your life.
Here’s a simple prayer you can pray today if you’d like to receive Jesus into your heart.
Dear Jesus, I admit that I’m a sinner in need of a savior. I’ve tried everything else that this world has to offer, but I’m still empty inside. I need you. I believe that you are the son of God, and that you came to this earth to die for my sins and that you rose again from the grave on the third day to save me and to set me free. I commit my life to following you for the rest of my life and I want to be a part of your plan of bringing healing and hope to this broken world. Amen.
