Christopher Yuan | Guest Lecture on Homosexuality
Come spend an evening hearing from Christopher Yuan — an internationally acclaimed speaker, author, educator, AIDS activist & survivor — as he helps equip the church to address the topic of sexuality from a compassionate, redemptive, and Biblically-based perspective. Besides teaching at Moody Bible Institute, Christopher has spoken at dozens of churches, including Saddleback and Willow Creek. His riveting story has captivated a wide range of audiences from federal prisoners to Yale scholars. Christopher’s testimony has reached four continents around the world, providing hope for people working through issues of sexuality and those living with HIV/AIDS.
Date: Saturday, March 24; 6pm – 9pm
Location: Phantom Lake Elementary School (1050 160th Ave SE, Bellevue)
Registration: Pre-registration is required by emailing Mei-Ling at mei-ling@lighthouse2001.org
Cost: $5 @ the door
Christopher will speak on two topics:
Love & Homosexuality: Affirmation or Obedience?
There is nothing greater than love. How can Christians deny the love between two people? Does love really demand the affirmation of homosexuality? Christopher uses personal experience, biblical theology and the entire canon of Scripture to show how true love compels us toward obedience and holiness.
A Christian Response to Homosexuality
There are few issues in our society as volatile and divisive as homosexuality. This issue has polarized politics, media, schools and even churches. So how should Christians respond to homosexuality and, more importantly, homosexual people? Christopher combines his life experiences with his training in Bible and theology to bring a fresh perspective ont his issue.

29:11 Missional Project Recap
29:11 is a community of young career adults being transformed into Jesus followers who are committed to living out the gospel and sharing God’s love with those in our spheres of influence. Throughout the week, various small groups meet to learn, grow, pray, discuss and challenge each other to live out the good news of Jesus in a world that desperately needs it. This means that we don’t just read, study and listen to God’s word…but we actually go out and do what it says. That’s why every month, our small groups put their heads together and come up with their own “missional project.” We believe as we put into practice what we learn — often times stepping out in faith and out of our comfort zones — God uses us to do good, and he also transforms us. This is part of what discipleship is all about.
Here’s Tony’s recap of his small group’s December missional project. They meet weekly on Wednesday evenings at the Lighthouse Center.
December 22, 2011 Missional Project: Austin, Royce, Jeff, Isaac, Howard, Jason, Gayle, & TonyOur group decided on a monthly missional project of reaching out to the homeless in Seattle’sinternational district. But we wanted to do more than just pass out sandwiches where we would feel good about ourselves and pat ourselves on the back. We wanted the homeless people we would encounter to know that they were loved and valued. What more could we do to help restore dignity and to let them know that they were a person of worth? We decided that we would invite them to a sit down dinner, listen to their story, and pray for them.We met up at a Oasis, a local bubble tea store to discuss the strategy and pray for the Holy Spirit to guide us in conversation with people we meet. We broke off into groups of two and three and went started searching for people. After 15-20 minutes we were a bit discouraged because we had only seen a few homeless people that were either already sleeping or unwilling to engage in conversation. At the end of about 30 minutes of walking, we decided to meet and call it a night since it was getting late. As soon as we started walking toward our meeting point, one of our groups met a man who they talked with, listened to his story, shared with him about what our group was doing, bought a meal for him,and prayed over him. After our group dinner, a few of us walked over to the bubble tea shop whereRoyce had run into a woman asking for money and was willing to talk. After a few minutes into the conversation, some other members joined, bought her some food, gave her socks, gloves, and prayed for her. As that was happening, Jeff and I noticed a man sitting in a doorstep of a building bundled up,but awake. We approached him to say hi and he was happy to respond. We asked him his name, and if we could get him any food or water. Jeff asked if we could pray for him. He happily accepted, so we laid hands on him, prayed, and came back with hot food and water. At the beginning of our meeting we were all excited to talk with people over a meal and to see how God would use us to bless others. We started off slow and soon had thoughts of the night being failure interms of meeting homeless and it not turning out the way we had hoped. In the end, we interacted andserved three different people all within the last half of our evening. It made me realize two things: 1) to be patient in God’s timing in everything that we do 2) to be bold in prayer and in serving others.

Location Change // Born Identity Young Adult Retreat
***IMPORTANT UPDATE FOR YOUNG ADULT RETREAT ATTENDEES***
Hi everyone,
Due to inclement weather down in Olympia (they have received 6″ of snow, and it’s still coming down), we are making a last minute change to the location of the retreat to Camp Sambica right in our backyard on Lake Sammamish! We praise God for the last minute availability of the campsite, and it’s further confirmation that God wants this retreat to happen! As promised, we are looking out for your safety
. This is excellent news as Camp Sambica has excellent facilities and has recently been renovated. Everything else regarding the retreat will remain the same, just the location has changed from 1.5 hours away to 20 minutes away!
Here’s the address to the retreat site:
Sambica (http://www.sambica.com/)
4114 W Lk Sammamish Pkwy SE
Bellevue, WA 98008
We understand the natural urge is to go home at the end of the day to sleep in your own bed since the facility is so close to home, but we encourage everyone to stay at the retreat facility over night! Spending a weekend away will help build community, foster an atmosphere of openness, and also create deeper relationships. We want this for all of you, and it will be a great weekend to get away!
If you have any concerns/questions, please send me an email, text, or give me a call (206)349-9989. I will have my phone with me at all times, and no time is too late to call or text. I hope you are all excited – we are in for a supernatural weekend!!
God Bless,
Kevin
