How to Help in Haiti

Haiti EarthquakeIn the aftermath of Haiti’s worst earthquake in 200 years, we urge you to pray for the people of Haiti. Thousands have died, and the humanitarian situation is desperate. Before the earthquake, 80 percent of Haiti’s population was already living in extreme poverty and hunger. The country has suffered a surge in food prices in 2008, a rapid downturn in its economy, and a string of natural disasters. The situation is now far more desperate.

Please consider how you can help in relief efforts by giving monetarily. Lighthouse will be taking a special offering this Sunday during both services and partnering with World Vision to support Haiti disaster relief. You can also donate directly to World Vision here.

Praying for Jason…

Jason WongMany of you know that our brother, Jason Wong, was seriously injured last month after being hit by a drunk driver. Please keep him in prayer as he undergoes surgery this Friday, Jan 15th. If you’d like to show your support, you can visit him at Harborview Medical Center in room 811. You can also donate financially to help support Jason and his family. A fund has been setup at Wells Fargo called “Save Jade West Cafe.”

THE POWER OF ONE: The Well [12.05.09] Message Recap

The Power of OneIn the final message of our 3 part series, “The Jesus Retrolution: A Fresh look at The Man, The Message and The Mission,” Royce preached on The Mission of Jesus.  If you’ve missed this one, you can grab the message in either audio or video format from our podcast on the iTunes store.

How many of us here, who consider ourselves ‘Christians,’ never realized that we have a God given mission in this life?  Many of us perhaps thought that after praying the salvation prayer, we’re all good, and now we can coast through life.  We just try to live a good life, try not to cuss too much, try not to drink too much, come to church on Sundays, and every once in a while crack open the bible and pray before your meals, but other than that, life is pretty much the same.  We pretty much do what we did before we got ’saved’ and try our best to adhere to this religion of Do’s and Don’ts.  But is this really what Christianity is about?

Ever wonder what Jesus meant, when He said, I came so that you can have life, and have it to the fullest?

Let’s look at 2 Corithians 5:14-21:

14 For Christ’s love compels us, because we are convinced that one died for all, and therefore all died. 15 And he died for all, that those who live should no longer live for themselves but for him who died for them and was raised again.

16 So from now on we regard no one from a worldly point of view. Though we once regarded Christ in this way, we do so no longer. 17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here! 18 All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation: 19 that God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting people’s sins against them. And he has committed to us the message of reconciliation. 20 We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ’s behalf: Be reconciled to God. 21 God made him who had no sin to be sin [a] for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.

The whole bible paints the redeeming story of God, all pointing to Jesus coming and paying the price for the sin of mankind, so that we can be reconciled back to God.  His Kingdom is a display of righteous people redeemed through the blood of the lamb.

God wasn’t satisfied with the current state in which man lived, he wasn’t satisfied with the current state of the world, so he sent Jesus.  Jesus came into a broken, messed up, fallen and sinful world to establish God’s Kingdom, and to bring hope, freedom, peace and healing.  Ultimately, He came to restore and to reconcile what was righteously God’s back to Him.  What did we do to deserve this? Nothing.  This is grace.

Through grace and faith, those who have been reconciled to God can now stand in the presence of God each day, and every day clothed with His righteousness, in an ongoing process of Him healing us of past wounds, restoring us back to Him so that we are not lacking anything.

Wouldn’t you want to share this good news with all the people you love and come in contact with?  There is still plenty of people today that have yet to be reconciled back to Jesus.  There is a lot of people out there that don’t even know that God has made this free gift available to them.

God is saying to us now that we have a purpose, and we have a mission. We were saved for a mission and our mission and Jesus’ mission are now one in the same; and in the same way that God used Jesus and his 12 disciples to change the world and reconcile the world back to himself, God wants to use each one of us to do the same.

We are called and sent by God. Would you believe it?

Is this overwhelming to you?  See, the good news is that not only did God entrust this extremely important mission to us but he doesn’t leave us by ourselves to accomplish this task.  He gave us the Holy Spirit.  Jesus lives in us now, empowering us, guiding us, strengthening us and protecting us.  This is big!  This means that not only as Christ’s ambassadors do we represent Jesus, but it also means that we have access to everything He has access to.

Will you accept this mission? God wants to use you, will you let him?

Generation of Potential

Thy Kingdom Come
My name is Kevin Chou, and I serve on the core team for 29:11.  I’m a firm believer that there is a special call on this generation.  A generation that is sensitive to the Spirit, yet one of the more apathetic generations towards things of God.  At the heart of 29:11, we want to see a revival take place in the hearts of the 21-35 years-olds.  I believe that the Holy Spirit is moving in such a way that is equipping His people to do the impossible for Him.  When we do the impossible with dependence on the Holy Spirit, we glorify God in our lives because only He can perform such miracles.  Matthew 10:8 says “Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse the lepers, cast out demons.  Freely you received, freely give.”  This commandment is still as relevant today as it ever was, and we have the authority in Jesus name to carry out what He’s commanded us to do.  When God speaks to us, and tells us to do something in His name, He’s already given us the ability to carry it out.  We just cannot doubt what He’s spoken to us.  Within 29:11, we believe in the power of the Holy Spirit, that He can perform such miracles through us.  We don’t claim to be healers, prophets, or anything like that, but we trust that the Holy Spirit is living and active, and that He chooses to use us because that is what brings Him glory.  I personally believe there is so much untapped potential within this generation to do amazing things for His Kingdom.  As Bill Johnson says it best, “we owe the world an encounter with God.”

Are You Ready for THE JESUS RETROLUTION?

THE JESUS RETROLUTIONWelcome to THE JESUS RETROLUTION. The term “RETROLUTION” combines two words, retro and revolution. The word “retro” derives from the Latin prefix retro, meaning “backwards” or “in past times.” In today’s culture, it has become a popular term used to describe, denote or classify culturally outdated or aged trends, modes, or fashions, from the overall postmodern past, but have since that time become functionally or superficially the norm once again. A “revolution” (from the Latin revolutio, “a turn around”) is a fundamental and often times radical change in ways of thinking and behaving that takes place in a relatively short period of time.

Simply put, Jesus was a revolutionary – All that He was, all that he embodied and everything that He stood for – radically changed the course of human history. And we believe that that same Jesus – who came to this world fully-God and fully-man to serve the needy, to heal the sick, to feed the poor, and to save the lost – is still as relevant today as He was 2000 years ago. Yet somewhere along the way, the message of Jesus and the cross has been distorted and watered down. And many so-called Christians today fail to live out everything that Jesus died for. We’ve missed the point. And we are no longer light in the darkness. We are no longer hope for the hopeless.

THE JESUS RETROLUTION is a movement to put a stop to this. It’s a movement that introduces no new ideas. Instead, it’s simply a movement that re-introduces Jesus of Nazareth 2000 years ago in His purest and most authentic form, a true revolutionary. It’s a movement that revisits the reality of our gospel at it’s core. And as we ourselves begin to recapture and reclaim the true meaning and the true essence of the gospel of Jesus Christ for our own lives, we will then become advocates and conduits of a world-changing social revolution that will rock our generation.

We believe our generation is hungry for change, and the time for change is now. We believe our generation is thirsty for the truth, and the moment for the truth is here. We believe our generation is desperate for Jesus, and the hour for Jesus is today.

THE JESUS RETROLUTION starts with you. Don’t just witness it…experience it. Join THE JESUS RETROLUTION today!

THE WELL [8.1.09] – “You Got Served”

“You Got Served” Part One

“You Got Served” Part Two

Exceeding Expectation – Part 3

Continuing from Exceeding Expectation – Part 2.  Upon realizing her true purpose and identity in Christ, she tells her entire village of what happened at the well.

The village believes, and now she is in community with them.  She is no longer an outcast who traveled to the well at noon to avoid people.  We were all created to be in community with believers and constant relationship with God.  Through the community we help each other to grow, to encourage, to support one another, and ultimately to be an instrument in our Redeemer’s hands.

In our first The Well gathering, we spoke on our vision for a 29:11 community that is contagious, Christ-centered, supernatural, inclusive and joyfully generous.  Our vision is to become a passionate community of young career adults who reflect God’s abundant love through vibrant worship, radical faith and selfless service with the hope of transforming our generation.  Wouldn’t you desire for a community like this?

Join us for one of the upcoming events and find out more.

Exceeding Expectation – Part 2

Continuing from Exceeding Expectation – Part 1.  Upon receiving the living water, something significant changes in the heart of the Samaritan woman at the well.

She no longer hold onto her old life, she leaves her water jar.  She doesn’t need it any more, she’s received something so much more fulfilling and so much greater.  When we invite Jesus into our lives and allow Him to search our hearts and expose our wounds, He comes in to heal us.  Heal us whole so that we are no longer fixed on searching for God-replacements to satisfy us, but freely begin living with an overflowing joy and purpose for Him.

Jesus wants to complete you and he wants to exceed all of your expectations, because he knows you better than you know yourself and he wants what’s best for you.  Often our fears and wounds hold us back from taking that step of faith to trust and follow Jesus in all we do.  I may not know you, but God does, and Jesus loves you.  He knows your fears and wounds, and He loves you so much that He wants to heal them.

The Samaritan woman leaves her water jar and runs back to the village, telling everyone about Jesus – the good news.  It’s no longer about her past, her shame and her sins, but her heart is beating again with a passion.  A passion for Christ.

If you were made whole again by Jesus, what’s the new purpose? New passion? What will make you come alive?

If you are reading this right now and not yet in a relationship with Jesus, or that you’ve been a Christian for a while but have been far from Jesus.  If you want to begin/re-commit a relationship with God and live your life to the fullest that He has planned for you.  Pray the following prayer and we believe that your life will never be the same again.

“Lord Jesus, welcome to my world.  Come into my life, come into my heart.  Forgive me of all my sins and make me a new person.  I receive you now, as the Leader and Savior of my life.  I boldly declare, that I will never be the same again and I will follow you the rest of my days.  In Jesus’ name. Amen”

If you prayed that prayer, let us know >>.  If you are in the Seattle area, we’d love to meet you at one of our future gatherings!

Exceeding Expectation – Part 1

How often in our lives do we chase after something that we think is the best there is, only to find out that it isn’t.  Or some times, we realize it’s actually bad for us?

In our 2nd gathering at The Well, Royce spoke on how our own foolishness of thinking that we know best, causes us to often sell ourselves short of what God really wants for our lives.  God is not just about satisfying us, he’s not just about meeting our needs, he’s not just about giving us what we ask for, he’s about going above and beyond.  He wants to pour out his goodness and his favor and blessings into our lives so much so that it would overflow and start spill out and begin to affect others around us.

The story of the Samaritan woman at the well.  Her encounter with Jesus gave her something beyond just quenching the physical thirst, but a flow of living water that hits the soul.

What are you filling your life with in an attempt to satisfy that thirst?  What is the name of the well you are drinking out of? Is it life giving?

Jesus is more than enough.  Will you receive Him?

If you want to begin a relationship with God and live your life to the fullest that He has planned for you.

Amen”

Becoming a Biblical Community

Acts 2:42-47
42They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. 43Everyone was filled with awe, and many wonders and miraculous signs were done by the apostles. 44All the believers were together and had everything in common. 45Selling their possessions and goods, they gave to anyone as he had need. 46Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, 47praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.

What an awesome sight! This church was contagious, it was infectious and it was attractive! God wants all of us to be part of this kind of community.  What was so good about this community that everyone wanted to be part of? From The Well [05.30.09] (check out the video recording >>) there are 4 key ingredients to a contagious biblical community:

1. Contagious community is Christ-centered: the focus and the reason for the community needs to be centered around the message of Jesus and the cross

2. Contagious community is Supernatural: the community has the deep sense of awe brought on by the work of Holy Spirit

3. Contagious community is Inclusive: together, everyone, not just some of them, ALL

4. Contagious community is Joyful & Generous: radical and profound encounter with Jesus results in deep joy and freedom from the worldly things

What if church today could look this good? Wouldn’t you want to be in this kind of community? We can become a contagious biblical community that God will use to change our city, our generation, and our world.
